About us
WHO WE ARE Edussentials is a Limited Liability
Company (LLC) organized in Franklin Count, Ohio. Edussentials was
formed in the summer of 2006 in order to provide Supplemental Educational
Services to public school students in Ohio as required by provisions
of the No Child Left Behind legislation.
The
organizing member of the LLC is Michael Barnes. Mr. Barnes is an
experienced mathematics teacher and tutor with a Bachelor
of Science degree in Mathematics from The Ohio State University.
Our tutors are employees of the company, not
volunteers or contractors and are subjected to full background checks
prior to employment. This insures their professional performance.
We do not retain tutors who are unable to fulfill their professional
obligations to you and your student. Tutors employed by Edussentials
are well qualified to provide instruction in reading and mathematics.
All of our tutors have college degrees and/or have valid licenses
as teachers or instructional aides from the Ohio Department of Education.
Many of our tutors have or are pursuing advanced degrees.
PHILOSOPHY
A careful look at our company logo
provides some insights into our philosophy of education. We firmly
believe that real education must address all three of the words contained
in the rings.
Knowledge – Certainly,
education must impart knowledge to students. However, contrary to
popular belief, knowledge is NOT power.
Understanding – Knowledge that is not understood
is of little or no use to anyone. Knowledge must exist in a context
and students must be able to connect that knowledge to their own
experiences in order for that knowledge to become useful.
Application – Education is of little use if
it does not allow us to accomplish things that we could not have
accomplished otherwise. We must be able to take the knowledge we
have gained, and through our understanding of it, apply it to the
achievement of a goal.
Finally, this is not a linear process. The
three aspects of education described above happen one at a time,
two at a time or all at once and in no particular order, depending
on the situation. That is why these words are placed on the rings
you see in our logo. They rings are a very special mathematical
construct known as Borromean Rings. The significance of these rings
is that not two rings are directly connected to each other. If any
one ring is cut apart and removed, the entire structure comes apart.
Similarly, if any of the three aspects of education outlined here
are left out of consideration, the entire idea of education falls
apart. All three are vital and must be addressed.
